PVC registration: New voters will be divided – Keyamo

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, extend the period for voter registration.

Keyamo, who announced this on Friday via his Twitter account, claimed that the new voters would be split between the ruling party, the main opposition, and the others.

The registration period for voters should be extended by INEC. Those who attempt to portray the mass registration as a complete uprising against the ruling party are in fantasy land.

The ruling party, the main opposition, and the others would compete for the new voters, he predicted.

As you may recall, the House of Representatives had asked INEC on Wednesday to extend the deadline for voter registration, and INEC responded by saying that it might use more equipment and ad hoc staff.

The head of the House Committee on INEC, Rep. Aisha Duku, had previously stated that the electoral umpire had consented to extend voter registration.

In order to ensure a successful exercise, she continued, INEC informed the committee that the registration days would now include weekends.
