SWAN wants members in Lagos Sports Associations

The Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter, Debo Oshundun, has called on the leadership of the Lagos State Sports Commission to deliver onboard members of the association about the reconstituted sports association boards in the nation.

“As one of the essential stakeholders in sports development in the state, I wish to call on the direction of the commission to deliver onboard our associates since media attaches to the various sports institutions in the nation.

“This will assist in the area of information management and cordial relationship between the media and the commission.

“The very last boards had SWAN members on board however, the arrangement wasn’t formal,” he explained.

In his comments, the Director-General, Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafar Bolowotan thanked the new Lagos SWAN executive associates for deeming it fit to pay the commission per visit after the institution’s election held in March.

His words: “For us in the commission, sportswriters have an essential place within our hearts. Though we might disagree with each other in one area or another, we are partners in advance.

“We welcome criticism by the media but our fascination is that such criticism should be objective.

“We don’t claim to understand all of it. Our doors are always open to the institution, so we hope for a better relationship in the coming years.”

The Director-General said that the petition for appointing SWAN members since the media attaches to the newly reconstituted sports institution boards is a welcome proposal.

“The request is a welcome idea, we’ll look into it and very soon the commission will get back to you on it.

“Though we don’t have any record that SWAN members are part of the past sports association boards however we will consider your petition because it is in line with our brand new policy in sports development and guidelines for the sports institution,” he said.
