In the Isi-Uzo local government area of Enugu State’s Mgbuji Eha-Amufu Community, gunmen posing as herdsmen are thought to be Islamic terrorists who have abducted over 15 locals.
On Monday morning, the neighbourhood was invaded, and locals were kidnapped.
In Mgbuji town, it was reported that the kidnapping happened around 7 am along Mgbuji-Agu Road close to the railroad crossing. While some of the villagers were being picked up on their various rice farms, others were being picked up while riding tricycles to their farms when they were captured by the terrorists.
Following the kidnappings, the occupying terrorists are reported to have driven to the border between Enugu and Benue State.
Chijioke Ogbodo, a spokesman for the Mgbuji Community, lamented that soldiers who had just been sent to Eha-Amufu failed to act and allegedly refused to respond to distress calls after the abductions were confirmed on Monday.
In addition to saying that their crime was attempting to steal food from their farms, he pleaded with the state government to act to rescue the victims.
On July 5, it was reported that gunmen dressed as police officers and soldiers abducted seven members of the same community and shot three more. The attackers were thought to be Islamic terrorists.

Since September 2021, numerous attacks have taken place in the community and nearby communities in Eha-Amufu. Hundreds of homes and other pieces of property worth millions of naira have been destroyed, and numerous people have been killed. Other people have been abducted for ransom by the hundreds.
Enugu State Police Command did not respond to attempts to get their reaction, however.
When the time came to make comments and clarifications, the Command’s spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, did not answer his mobile phone.
