Two people were confirmed dead and two others were rescued after a three-story building collapsed in Lagos on Saturday evening.
Shortly after the downpour, the incident occurred at 4 Alayaki Lane, Freeman in Lagos Island’s densely populated Freeman neighbourhood.

According to reports, this incident has brought the number of collapsed buildings since the May 1 disaster at Ebute-Mete to at least four.
Even though the most recent collapsed structure was said to be under construction, the Lagos State Building Control Agency had reportedly sealed the building (LABSCA).
Director General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, stated that the developer continued clandestine operations primarily at night and on weekends despite the notice and sealing of the premises.
He stated, “The agency responded to the aforementioned incident, which violated building safety protocols.” It was discovered that the structure had been seized by the LASBCA District Office and served with all Statutory Notices, Sealed at the District and Central Enforcement Levels.” Further investigation revealed that the developer continued to conduct clandestine operations primarily at night and on weekends.

There are still unconfirmed numbers of people trapped inside the building. Two individuals have been rescued alive, while two others have been found deceased. Ongoing Search and Rescue operations.”
But the acting Zonal Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, who was on the scene with his men, reported that three people were rescued and two bodies were recovered from the collapsed structure.
