The US stated on Friday that Covid-19 testing will no longer be required for international visitors arriving by air, marking a significant step toward the progressive easing of pandemic restrictions in the country.
Following considerable lobbying from the travel sector, White House Assistant Press Secretary Kevin Munoz confirmed the news on Twitter.
Before boarding, all passengers had to produce proof of having recovered from the virus in the previous 90 days, or a negative Covid viral test taken shortly before flying.

President Joe Biden’s work on vaccines and treatments, Munoz said, had been “important” in reducing travel restrictions, and that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention would continue to study Covid data in the wake of a recent spike in cases.
Last month, the United States passed one million Covid deaths, with Biden noting departed families’ “unrelenting” anguish and urged Americans to remain watchful.
On the West Coast in early February 2020, America’s first Covid-19 death was recorded.
Many mask mandates have been lifted, however the number of daily viral cases has recently increased in the country, owing to new Omicron subvariants.
