The delay in completion of the Lagos-Ibadan railway project might not be unconnected with the failure of the contractor to adhere to this project work program, The Country has learnt.
Aside from the contractors, trailer drivers at the Apapa channel are also frustrating the project due to parking.
Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, revealed that these during the inspection of the Lagos-Ibadan rail project on Saturday at Moniya Station at Ibadan.
The Minister explained: “I’ve asked CCECC to view us on Wednesday, we will have a meeting and I have to tell them that I’m sick and tired of their excuses.
“We’ve noticed things which will delay movement of products, they are minor, I think them but I need them to emphasise and TEAM has always stated that they don’t move by their work program.
“Ibadan-Kano and other future projects, everybody needs to go by job program both concerning payment, construction, review and others so that we keep to time and also the plan of work.”

On the disruption brought on by trailer drivers at Apapa, he explained: “We’ve requested the Permanent Secretary to call the NPA in since the trailer drivers have bothered the movement of the train to the seaport and now we must stop them now. We wither stop them stop the owner of the terminal.”
He also charged the contractors to engage more workforce.
He said: “I have noticed that the amount of workforce has significantly decreased which is impacting the rate of work. We’d agreed that we’ll commission in April but we cannot.”
On the possible date of commissioning, he explained: “We’re talking to the workplace of the President, once we talk with him, we will find a date and we will commission”
He also said the ministry could work with relevant agencies and departments to map outside communities which might be impacted by flood as a consequence of the undertaking.
Amaechi also assured the inscription in the station’s facilities written in the Chinese language would be altered to Nigerian languages
