The Zamfara State government, led by Governor Bello Matawalle, has suspended the Emir of Birnin ‘Yandoto, Alhaji Aliyu Marafa, for bestowing a chieftaincy title on a popular notorious bandit leader, Ada Aleru.
According to reports, the emirate decided to give Aleru a traditional title in order to achieve long-term peace in the crisis-torn Tsafe and Yandoton Daji emirates, as well as other areas of Zamfara and Katsina states that the terrorist had constantly attacked with his fighters.
It was learned that the title was bestowed following a discussion between the emirate’s elders and the terror leader.
In March, the emirate’s elders asked the deadly bandit to stop attacking communities in the emirate.
The state government, however, announced the suspension of the monarch involved with immediate effect less than 24 hours after the terrorist was bestowed with the chieftaincy title.
