ASUU Strike: Deputy Governor Asks Bayelsa Students to Avoid Social Vices

Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Governor of Bayelsa State Deputy, has encouraged students not to be swayed by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUUongoing )’s industrial action towards anti-social inclinations that may jeopardise their bright futures.

He counselled them to focus on desirable goals that would help them improve their learning and character both in and out of school in order to have a brighter future.

In Government House, Yenagoa, Ewhrudjakpo presented the advice to the National Union of Bayelsa State Students (NUBSS) Worldwide and students from the Sagbama Local Government studying at the Federal University, Otuoke.
The deputy governor hailed studentship as a true cornerstone for the sustainable development of any people and their society in a statement published by his media aide, Mr Doubara Atasi, on Wednesday.

“Bad character is like a flat tyre that cannot take somebody far in life,” he told the kids.

Ewhrudjakpo exhorted students to take their studies seriously and aspire to be better than their parents and guardians, noting that they would benefit themselves and society much if they avoided social vices like as cultism, rape, and drug misuse.

In response to NUBSS’ request for funding to help them fight cultism in secondary schools, he advised them to attack the problem at its source by preaching repentance to their undergraduate coworkers who are involved in cult activities.

“Your purpose or suggestion to go to secondary schools to fight cultism is commendable and honourable,” Ewhrudjakpo stated. But on your aim, I disagree.

“Before you take away the spec in another person’s eye, you must first remove the log in your own.” That are the folks who travel to secondary schools to enrol our kids and your younger ones? Aren’t they from colleges or universities?

“Those of you who are cultists in tertiary institutions are the ones who go around indoctrinating secondary school pupils into cultism.”

“So, before coming down to students at the lower levels, I want you to talk to and convert the undergraduates first.”
