Nigerian journalist, Princess Amalaha, named UTA Country President

Princess Abigail Chinyere Amalaha, a publisher and a lauded journalist, has been named president of Nigeria’s United Towns Agency (UTA).

A non-governmental organisation (NGO) with consultative status on the UN Economic and Social Council, the UTA is accredited by the UN (ECOSOC).

Dr. Abubakar Jimoh, a UTA Board Member, said that Princess Amalaha’s appointment followed a rigorous selection process that included interviews and background checks of her humanitarian work by the UTA Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

The happy news was announced by UTA Secretary-General Eya Essif, a Tunisian-born award-winning individual. She stated that the organization’s current operations are represented in 110 different nations worldwide.

Amalaha’s first task is to set up a full-fledged UTA office in Nigeria and launch operations on the execution of various humanitarian projects and charity works of UN NGOs in the areas of human rights projects for irrigation systems, electricity supply, alleviation of poverty, and achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the nation.

Amalaha referred to her appointment to the highly sought-after position as an act of God, an honour for Nigeria, and a significant challenge for her to demonstrate her mettle and demonstrate that Nigeria is capable of hosting the UTA and having the desired impact.

She expressed her sincere gratitude to the UTA management at the Geneva headquarters and to the Secretary-General Eya Essif for providing her with the necessary encouragement and support ever since her appointment on March 18, 2022.

The UTA Country President in Nigeria thanked her superiors for their faith in her.
