    Mr Macaroni stated this on Sunday while recounting his experience at the police station.

    According to him, one of the police officers said he would have killed him if not that he was popular and people would have asked about him.

    He added that other policemen took turns to beat him at Adeniji police station.

    It was recalled that Macaroni alongside 39 others was arrested sometime in February at the Lekki toll gate.

    They were arrested by policemen deployed to the Lekki tollgate, forward of the #OccupyLekkiTollGate and #DefendLagos protests scheduled for February 13, 2021.

    Lawmaker accuses Governors of frustrating financial independence of legislature, judiciary

    The member representing Bosso constituency, Hon. Malik Madaki Bosso has accused the State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello of frustrating the financial autonomy for the legislative and judicial arms of the state government.

    The social media influencer has reportedly been convicted on her own plea by the Accra Circuit Court.

    Vacancy: WTO opens application for 2022 Young Professionals Programme

    The World Trade Organization (WTO) is calling for the program for the 2022 Young Professionals Programme (YPP).

    Announcing the program in an announcement on its website on Friday, April 9, the organisation said the programme allowed qualified young professionals from developing and least-developed nations to better their knowledge regarding the WTO and global trade problems.

    The WTO stated YPP selection would give preference to young professionals in growing and least-developed countries that were members of the WTO and whose nationals were now under-represented or maybe not represented at the organisation’s Secretariat.

    It included that YPP was a part of the Secretariat’s overall aim to increase its diversity to reflect the make-up of its membership.

    The organization clarified further that YPP was an exceptional chance to obtain hands-on experience that could help open the door for future professional opportunities in the field of multilateral diplomacy and global trade.

    Candidates up to age 32, as of 1 January 2022, from eligible countries were invited to submit their application by 29 April 2021.

    The chosen candidates will work in the WTO Secretariat for one year, beginning in January 2022.

    The 2021 cadre of Young Professionals comprises 14 professionals in Bangladesh, Belize, Dominican Republic, Eswatini, Guatemala, Georgia, Indonesia, Malawi, Mauritania, Namibia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Chinese Taipei and Thailand, according to the WTO.

    They were chosen from more than 2,400 candidates after a competitive selection process.

    Almost 60 professionals have engaged in the programme since it was established in 2017, WTO stated.

    NSF: Edo Govt threatens to shut down festival over lack of funds

    The Edo government, hosts of the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) in Benin, will shut down the 13-day event by 12 noon Thursday, an official said late Wednesday.

    Musa Ebomhiana, Project Manager with the Media and Communications Sub-Committee of the festival’s Local Organising Committee (LOC), said the decision was necessitated by President Muhammadu Buhari regime’s refusal to fulfil a promise.

    He said the federal government failed to support the state with funds as promised, and the state government had no choice other than to shut down the festival.

    This decision was taken after an emergency meeting of the festival’s LOC headed by Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu.

    “You can quote me that we just finished from an emergency meeting of the LOC, and as I speak with you, we have decided to close down the festival by 12 noon tomorrow (Thursday).

    “The decision was arrived at because the federal government has reneged on its promise to help the state with funds.

    “Due to that, we’re closing the festival,” Mr Ebomhiana stated.

    He, however, didn’t disclose how the LOC was going to close down the festival.

    NAN could not get the reaction of the festival organisers, the Main Organising Committee (MOC), to this growth as at the time of this report.

    Governor Willie Obiano had on Sunday directed the security operatives within the state, youths, vigilantes and community leaders to rise up to the security challenges within the state.

    Army officers had been sighted at Atani Road, Upper Iweka in Onitsha, and on Onitsha-Owerri Road – with roadblocks for possible stop-and-search operations.

    Last week, rampaging gunmen attacked some police stations in the state, killing policemen and carting away arms and ammunition.

    The gunmen had killed policemen in Neni, Anaocha Local Government Area at a checkpoint.

    Weeks in the past, they killed four policemen in Nkpologwu in the Aguata local government area of the state.
