The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF) has criticised the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) decision to run former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar for President.

Prior to this, the forum had demanded that all political parties zone their presidential candidates to the south.

The SMBLF also warned that presenting northern candidates in the next general election would have “grim consequences.”

On Saturday, however, PDP delegates chose Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate.
The SMBLF said the selection of a northern candidate is a “brazen affront” to the south in a statement signed by the forum’s leaders on Sunday.

“Unfortunately, it appears that Nigeria’s unity and peace mean little or nothing to a segment of the country’s political elite.” This was demonstrated at the PDP special convention on Saturday, May 28, 2022, where certain candidates from the North were pressured, coerced, and even intimidated to step down for former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who eventually emerged as the party’s flagbearer, in blatant disregard for the established principle of zoning and power rotation between the north and south,” according to the statement.

“Undoubtedly, the sole motivation is to maintain northern hegemony, given that President Muhammadu Buhari, a Muslim from the north and of Fulani descent, will have completed his full eight-year term by this time next year.”

In the interest of posterity, the SMBLF categorically rejects Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s PDP candidacy and urges our people in Southern Nigeria and the Middle Belt, as well as all true lovers of peace and unity, not to vote for him or any other Northerner in the 2023 presidential election.

“The SMBLF also urges all aspirants for the office of President from southern Nigeria to reject conceited individualism and self-confidence and work together to achieve shared goals.”

Breaking: Tambuwal withdraws from presidential race, campaigned for Atiku

Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, has withdrawn from the presidential race in 2023.

Tambuwal, who announced his withdrawal from the race at the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national convention in Abuja, also campaigned for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Edo Rep Oghuma floored by Anamero in APC Etsako primary

Johnson Oghuma, the member of the House of Representatives for the Etsako Federal Constituency, will not be re-elected in 2023.

On Friday, the lawmaker was defeated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.

In an election held in Auchi, Edo State’s Etsako West Local Government Area, Oghuma came in fifth place.

Dekeri Anamero was declared the winner with 66 votes out of 160 cast, according to NAN.

Festus Ebea, the Returning Officer, announced that nine candidates ran in the election.

Richard Lamai received 51 votes, Mohammed Bawa received 19, Abubakar Momoh received 14, Oghuma received 7, and Bonald Bohi received 2.

Anamero thanked the delegates, party leaders, and members for their support.

“I must express my gratitude to the APC for providing me with the opportunity to fly the ticket in 2023; I will not take it for granted.”

Breaking: INEC extends deadline for Party’s primaries by six days

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended political party primaries by six days to allow them to complete their campaigns.

INEC met with the leadership of political parties today, according to Festus Okoye, Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, and the political parties requested the Commission to review the timelines for political party primaries provided in the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Conduct of the 2023 General Election released on Saturday 26th February 2022.

“Political parties had previously requested a 37- to 60-day extension of the timeline for primaries and candidate nominations. The Commission was adamant that this request could not be granted because it would cause disruption to other Timetable activities. The Commission’s stance has not changed.

“However, based on the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2023 General Election, the parties have now pleaded with the Commission to use the 6-day period between June 4th and June 9th, 2022, to complete outstanding primaries and prepare to upload the list of candidates and their affidavits on the INEC Candidates Nomination Portal.”

“During this time, the Commission did not plan any specific activities. “From the 10th to the 17th of June 2022, the idea is to simply give parties time to compile the list and personal particulars of their nominated candidates before uploading them to the INEC Candidates Nomination Portal,” he explained.

The commission decided to allow the political parties’ request because the six-day period did not conflict with the next scheduled activity, which is the submission of the list of nominated candidates, or any of the subsequent timelines, according to Okoye.

“However, this request is granted only in relation to pending primaries, and not to those that have already been concluded by political parties.” “The Commission will not be monitoring primaries that have already taken place,” he added.

After the primaries, the next critical activity for political parties, according to Okoye, was the online submission of the list of candidates the party intended to sponsor, which should be accompanied by an affidavit sworn to by the candidates indicating that they met all the constitutional requirements for election into various offices via the INEC Candidates Nomination Portal.

Furthermore, he stated that the Commission had decided, based on previous experience, to train political party officials on how to use the portal efficiently and effectively.

‘The Commission will train four representatives from each of the 18 political parties, for a total of 72. Sadly, some political parties have yet to submit their candidates for the training. The Commission is reminding such parties to do so right away. “The Commission would like to emphasise that only nominations submitted electronically will be considered,” he said.

Primary: 3 APC aspirants protest alleged irregularities in Ekiti

Three of the four APC candidates who ran for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 1 walked out of the primary on Friday, citing irregularities and manipulation.

Sunday Ola, Oluyemi Esan, and Opeyemi Ogunsakin were among the aspirants who expressed dissatisfaction with the primary’s conduct.

Rep. Sola Fatoba, a sitting federal lawmaker, was declared the winner of the party’s primary election to return to the House of Representatives for a second term, according to reports.

The aggrieved aspirants, Esan, Ogunsakin, and Ola, responded by calling Fatoba’s victory “a sham and a disgrace to the ruling party,” and describing the primary as “a sham and a disgrace to the ruling party.”

“This primary is nothing but a sham and a disgrace to APC,” Esan said, addressing reporters at the primary’s venue.

“We expected the panel from Abuja to correct the delegates’ list that was brought from the national, which they didn’t do.”

Ola urged the party’s national leaders to declare the primary null and void and hold a new election.

This, he claims, will help our party win the governorship election in the state on June 18th.

“We asked for the delegates’ list more than a week ago, but they refused.”

“We wanted to present our grievances to the National Returning Officers this morning, but we were told that they were still on their way, but that they had begun calling the delegates.”

The State Returning Officers stated, “We queried who was in charge here.”

“They told us it’s a five-man Primary Election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives congress, led by Mr Dele Oloje and Niyi Adedipe, who is a delegate.”

“So, at the end of the day, there was nobody from the national secretariat conducting the primaries, but they were executed by the State Returning Officers, and with that, what do you expect other than the execution of a planned project,” he said.

“Everyone is agitated and the tension is high,” Ogunsakin added, “just because the delegates’ list that was supposed to be used for the primary was doctored.”

The aggrieved candidates threatened to testify in front of the APC Appeal Panel.

According to the Committee that conducted the primary, Fatoba polled a total of 114 votes to win the election, which was overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.

Ola, Esan, and Ogunsakin, who walked out of the Ekiti Pavilion in Fajuyi, Ado-Ekiti, in protest of the primary, received zero, three, and two points, respectively.

Fatoba told reporters that his re-election was a validation of his constituents’ trust in him.

He urged the other competitors to view his victory as a collective victory rather than a victory for one person or a vanquished race.

“We can all work for APC’s victory in the June 18 governorship election,” Fatoba said, urging them to join hands with him.

Abaribe joins APGA, dumps PDP

Senate Minority Leader Enyinnaya Abaribe has finally abandoned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the main opposition party.

Senator Abaribe confirmed his membership in the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) to Vanguard in Umuahia on Friday.

He stated that he would run for Senate again in 2023 on the APGA platform.

Abaribe pulled out of the PDP governorship race on Tuesday, citing a lack of transparency and the failure to hold a three-man delegate congress.

Six other PDP governorship candidates withdrew from the race ahead of the party’s primaries on Wednesday, claiming foul play and a plot by some forces to force a preferred candidate on the party.

APGA’s leadership paid a visit to Abaribe on Sunday, pleading with him and other progressives to join the party.

The APGA offered Abaribe a free senatorial ticket if he wanted it, but the Senate Minority Leader asked for time to consult with his constituents and political associates.

Abaribe told our correspondent that he had decided to join APGA and that he will run in the party’s senatorial primary on Saturday.
He also stated that he had resigned from the PDP and was fully registered with the APGA.

Abaribe will now face Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, the PDP’s candidate for the seat.

Senator Abaribe “is now fully with APGA,” according to a member of the APGA Board of Trustees, Chief Ahamdi Nweke.

“Abia’s most senior senator has joined progressives in the fight to free the state from the crutches of the forces that have kept it down,” he said.

“He’ll be accompanied by tens of thousands of PDP members who are angry about the party’s lack of internal democracy.”

PDP Chairman Rev. Augustine Ehiemere told Vanguard on Thursday that the party would confirm Abaribe’s membership soon.

He predicted that the PDP in Abia would crumble by the time what was about to happen happened.

Toviho wins PDP ticket for Badagry federal constituency

On Sunday evening, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared PDP candidate Olayemi Toviho for the Badagry Federal Constituency.

According to the party electoral officer, Johnson Avoseh, Mr Toviho received 31 out of 32 votes cast in the primary election, defeating Adekunle Lebile, who received one vote.

“By the power vested in me, I hereby declare Monday Olayemi the winner of the primary held in the Badagry Federal Constituency,” declared Mr Avoseh. “As a result, he is now the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for the Badagry Federal Constituency, having received the most votes.”

Gbenga Fayemi, the winner of the primary election for Badagry Constituency I, House of Assembly, was also declared.

Mr Fayemi received 18 votes out of the 18 total votes cast, while Stephen Adenaike received none.

“By the power vested in me, I hereby declare Gbenga Fayemi the winner of the Badagry Constituency I primary.” As a result, he is now the PDP’s candidate for Badagry Constituency 1 after receiving the most votes,” he said.

Meanwhile, Abidemi Akojenu, the PDP Badagry local government chairwoman, was not present at the primary.
Around 1:00 p.m., when she was leaving for Lagos, she stated that elections had been postponed due to logistical issues.

Some delegates’ names were substituted to favour some aspirants, according to a PDP chieftain who did not want his name mentioned.

The PDP’s Lagos State Chapter urged the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to postpone the House of Assembly and House of Representatives primaries scheduled for Sunday in Lagos.

Its chairman, Philips Aivoji, made the announcement at a news conference in Ikeja, where he was joined by other state executives, governorship aspirants, and party leaders.

AfDB’s Adesina not contesting for Presidency

It has been confirmed that Akinwunmi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank, would not run for President of Nigeria.

Last Monday, a support group acquired and submitted the All Progressives Congress’s N100 million Presidential form for the top banker.

According to reports, Adesina met with Mamman Daura, the President’s powerful nephew, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) last week to solicit his assistance.

It has been revealed that Adesina will not be present during the APC’s presidential screening on May 23.

In a few hours, Adesina’s office is scheduled to release a statement distancing himself from Nigeria’s party politics.

The AfDB’s regulations prohibit its President from participating in party politics.

“The Bank, its President, Vice Presidents, officers, and staff shall not interfere in the political affairs of any member (country); nor shall they be influenced in their decisions by the political character of the member (country) concerned,” states paragraph 2 of Article 38 of the AfDB agreement, titled “Prohibition of Political Activity; the International Character of the Bank.”

“The President, Vice Presidents, officers, and employees of the Bank, in execution of their offices, owe their allegiance exclusively to the Bank and to no other authority,” the article declares in paragraph 3.
The AfDB’s code of conduct also prohibits its executive from engaging in political politics. “Although Executive Directors are elected representatives of governments from their constituencies, they shall refrain from participating in active politics in their home countries or elsewhere throughout their time as executive directors,” says Section 10 of the Code.

Should Adesina run for President of Nigeria, he would have to relinquish his current post permanently, a risk the top banker was not willing to face, according to reports.

2023: We Will Give Amaechi 90% of the Votes – Taraba APC

Barr. Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State, declared on Monday that state party delegates would award Rotimi Amaechi, the former minister of transportation, 90 percent of their votes to win the party’s presidential ticket.

During Amaechi’s presidential consultative visit to Jalingo, the state capital, the APC chairman made the revelation.

El-Sufi expressed gratitude to Amaechi for his “enormous interest” in Taraba State, and guaranteed to deliver at least 90 percent of the delegates’ votes to the presidential candidate.

Earlier, presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi told the delegates that Taraba State is important to Nigeria since it is one of the country’s top food producers.

Amaechi claims that he will expand on President Muhammadu Buhari’s existing agricultural programmes to improve Taraba State, which is known for its agricultural wealth.

The former minister also vowed to invest in the Mambilla hydroelectric project in Taraba State to enhance power generation and distribution while also creating jobs.

“Believe me when I say that I’m going to invest in the Mambilla Power Plant.” I know what’s wrong with Mambilla since I was one of the people that went to China to negotiate it. So, by voting for me, you are voting for yourself, since the jobs that will be produced here will be for Taraba residents. Agriculture is the next crucial area in which I will invest, and the value chain will bring Taraba industrial development,” Amaechi predicted.

The South West Agenda for Asiwaju 2023 (SWAGA ’23) will officially launch its Affiliate, the NORTH CENTRAL AGENDA for ASIWAJU 2023 (NCA) in Kwara State, on Sunday 15th May 2022, as part of efforts to deepen the crusade of hope and better Nigeria being canvassed by a group loyal to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

2023: PDP must win next election for Nigeria’s sake — Valentine Ozigbo

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate for 2021, Valentine Ozigbo, has stated that the main opposition party must get it right in the next presidential primary in order to win the general election next year.

On Saturday, May 14, 2022, Mr. Ozigbo delivered these remarks at a town hall gathering he convened for Anambra South PDP delegates, aspirants, and stakeholders.

The delegates at the gathering held at the Hollywood Event Centre in Awka, the capital of Anambra State, overwhelmingly endorsed Ozigbo, a well-known worldwide CEO, for the PDP’s Senatorial ticket for Anambra South.

When it comes to national politics, Ozigbo believes Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and one of the PDP’s leading presidential candidates, would “really be a terrific president if given the opportunity.”

“How can we make certain that the PDP wins this election?” “The All Progressives Congress (APC) has failed Nigeria,” Ozigbo stated.

“This is a national war between the APC and the PDP.

Mr. Ozigbo mentioned the efforts he and other party officials were doing to enlist the support of key stakeholders as as previous presidents, former governors, current governors, and others in support of Peter Obi’s presidential bid.

Stakeholders, aspirants, and delegates from the seven local government areas that make up the Anambra South senatorial zone crowded the facility to its 1,000 capacity.

Ozigbo made a passionate address in which he emphasised the significance of a free and fair primary for all tickets in order to achieve party unity and electoral victory.

“Let me stress that the only reason I left the comforts of corporate Nigeria to enter politics is my displeasure with the existing quo and my discomfort with the barren state of our country,” Ozigbo remarked.

“I’ve decided to quit whining from the sidelines and join the solution.” We’ve had a lot of success thus far, and I appreciate everyone joining me on this adventure.

The PDP delegates were also urged by Ozigbo, the immediate past President and Group CEO of Transcorp Plc, to examine the consequences of their decisions and guarantee that viable candidates emerge.

Ganduje Appoints Acting Chief Of Staff

Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the governor of Kano state, on Sunday authorised the Head of Civil Service, Usman Bala Muhammad (mni), to take immediate charge of the Governor’s Office of Chief of Staff.

The appointment followed Ali Makoda’s spectacular departure as ex-chief of staff, who had since bolstered the ranks of the New Nigeria People’s Party in Kano.
The oversight will be suspended pending the appointment of a substantive Chief of Staff, according to a statement released by the Information Commissioner, Malam Muhammad Garba.

The governor stated his desire for good supervision and coordination by the Head of Service, who has previously held the position.

APC Has Caused Disunity in Nigeria, Atiku Laments

“The entire country has been screwed up by the current administration, including all areas of the socio-economic economy,” Atiku says, “and it requires a person who is experienced and nationally accepted to turn around the country’s bad status.”

Unity, insecurity, the economy, education, and restructuring are among the five areas where the PDP presidential candidate said he will work if elected.

Former PDP State Chairmen Tackle Party’s NWC Over Emefiele’s Attack

Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state chairmen have slammed the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) for criticising CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele.

On Saturday, the PDP asked that Mr. Emefiele be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted by security and anti-graft authorities, particularly the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for alleged financial impropriety and abuse of authority at the CBN when he was in charge.
Emefiele’s involvement in politics without retiring as CBN Governor, according to the party, constitutes to gross misconduct in violation of Section 11 2 (2)(c) of the CBN Act.

The Forum of Former Chairmen expressed concern for the NWC members’ position, saying they were surprised that the party leadership would choose to play to the gallery at such a crucial moment when it should be focusing on tactics to win at all levels in the next elections.

The Forum, in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Alhaji Adamu Musa, condemned the party’s position, saying that the statement attributed to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Emefiele is diversionary and infantile.

“We are astounded that our great party’s leadership can choose to play to the gallery at this critical moment when we should be focusing on ways to win at all levels in the next elections.”

“In sounding all holy, the PDP NWC utterly missed the fact that Emefiele did not acquire the APC’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Form, which is the essence of the case.” Three different parties pooled their finances to buy the form for him, yet there is no evidence that he has collected it yet.

“Third, our party pretended ignorance of a remark made by Emefiele, in which he indicated unequivocally that despite pressure to run, he has not made a decision.”

“We are tempted to inquire of our great party’s NWC as to the basis on which it launched such vitriol on the CBN Governor.”

“Since we are also unaware of any NWC meeting held by our party between Friday and Saturday when that harmful remark was released, we would like to believe that the content was the author’s personal opinion and not that of our party’s NWC.”

“In the improbable case that the statement represents our party’s position, we condemn it completely.”

2023: CBN becomes an extension of APC – Ohanaeze gives Emefiele one-month deadline to leave

The youth wing of the largest Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has requested that Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele quit immediately.

According to sources, the development is related to the APC’s N100 million presidential form.

Within a week, Emefiele was named as one of the people who had purchased the form. However, the CBN chief stated on Saturday that the form was acquired by farmers and nationalists.

However, in a statement issued on Sunday, OYC President-General Mazi Okwu Nnabuike stated that Emefiele’s promises cannot deceive Igbo youths.

“When was the last time the Governor of a country’s central bank was involved in party politics?”

“We have to remark that his defence is dead on arrival; pounding the air. What about the hundreds of branded automobiles that have been making the rounds on social media? Could his so-called father Christmas farmers and patriots have bought him an APC form if he wasn’t a party member?” Okwu had inquired.

He claimed the CBN boss has no choice but to quit honourably or face being forced out of office.

“We can’t afford to keep an APC member as Governor of the CBN.” We now know why the economy has been crashing for the past seven years.

Emefiele replies Akeredolu over 2023 Ambition, reveals next live of action

Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has responded to Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s call for his resignation over the purchase of an APC Presidential Nomination Form.

On Saturday, Akeredolu demanded Emefiele’s resignation, claiming that his intention to run for office would herald the party’s demise.

The angry governor of Ondo also demanded that President Muhammadu Buhari fire Emefiele if he does not quit before running for re-election. Emefiele wrote on social media in response to the statement:

“I am humbled by the increased interest in my running for President in the general elections of 2023: I have not made that decision.” I am grateful to those farmers and patriots who have gone to such far as to raise personal finances and offer me Presidential Nomination Forms.

Ogun Elders Advisory Council Endorses Abiodun For Second Term

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has been supported for a second term by the Ogun Elders Advisory Council.

Chairman of the council. Oluleye Okuboyejo, who made the announcement at the Oba’s Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said Abiodun deserved another four years in office because of the state’s historic achievements.
He said the governor had proven himself to be a wonderful marketer of the state in terms of increasing investment and ease over the last three years.

“Governor Abiodun has been systematic in shaping the policy agenda around ‘ISEYA,’ and his marketing savvy is credited with the increase in the state’s internally generated revenue.

2023: CBN Governor, Emefiele picks APC presidential form

Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has chosen the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form to run for president in 2023.

Emefiele chose the form on Friday and will announce his decision on Saturday.

Emefiele’s associates allegedly paid N100 million for nomination and expression of interest forms on Friday at the International Conference Center in Abuja, where the forms were sold.

Recall that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Wednesday also picked his form to contest the 2023 presidential election.

2023: Presidential Aspirant Drags PDP To Court Over N40m Forms

Okey Uzoho, a presidential candidate, has filed a lawsuit against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for allegedly denying him the right to run in the May 28 presidential primary.

Uzoho, a lawyer and a PDP card-carrying member, cited the high cost of the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms as the reason for his decision not to run for office.

According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), the party has set the price of expressions of interest and nomination forms for presidential candidates at N40 million.

In an originating summons filed at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the lawyer named the PDP as the first defendant and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the second defendant.

The plaintiff claimed that the PDP’s action of requiring aspirants to meet a monetary condition was in violation of the 1999 Constitution and Sections 84(3) and (4) of the Electoral Act of 2022.

Uzoho stated that he was interested in running for President of Nigeria in the 2023 election as the party’s flag-bearer.

In an affidavit filed in support of the lawsuit, the lawyer expressed his disappointment at being denied the opportunity to pursue his goals.

He claimed that he was unable to submit a bank draught in the amount of N40 million, which was a requirement for obtaining the party’s presidential primary election expression of interest and nomination forms.

He told the court that he met all of the qualifications and requirements set forth by the 1999 Constitution and current laws for participation in the party’s presidential primary for the election in 2023.

Uzoho also stated that none of the disqualification criteria outlined in Section 137 of the 1999 Constitution applied to him.

He did, however, ask the court to “determine whether the PDP is entitled to impose or interpose as additional qualification/s the payment of N40million, as a further qualification to seek the party’s sponsorship for election to the office of President of Nigeria, having regard to Section 131 read together with Section 1(1) and (3) of the 1999 Constitution.”

The plaintiff sought N50 million in damages for the stress, inconvenience, and loss of valuable campaign time caused by his rejection from the presidential primary.

He also asked for a permanent injunction barring the defendants from barring him from the presidential primary.

He also requested an injunction requiring the PDP to provide him with all necessary facilities in order for him to compete in the party’s presidential primary election.

The lawsuit’s hearing has yet to be scheduled.
